Cardiff in Monochrome
It's been a long time since I spent hours shooting in monochrome, back in the days of Ilford HP5 and FP4 rolling through my Nikon FE2. So on a recent trip to Cardiff, I decided to return to some black and white work.
I just took my X100 and set it to Black and White + Red filter, Jpeg + RAW. The beauty of this setup was that I composed and shot in high contrast, but had the advantage of being able to process a RAW image back at home and tweak the settings from scratch, even adding back colour if I wanted.
It was great fun and quite freeing. Tiny, unobtrusive camera, no lens decisions to make, just looking at shapes, people, light and shade.
