Self portrait of the artist - aged nine and a half

This was all I needed to put into my journal on the day.

When my son came home from his childminder, and showed me this, I just laughed and laughed. You know when a piece of art just captures the essence of a small person so well? The wry smile, the cheekiness.

I'd had a mixed day, that day. But when I sat down with my journal, I just felt this was all I needed to include for the day. So I photographed the canvas, printed it out on sticky paper and stuck it onto the day's page. It was enough.

And putting it into a real notebook, a real journal, not on social media, as always, felt good.
